Lily and Ella were caught exploring one of the cool new books that have just arrived in our classroom! A view of the night sky is possible with this great book of constellations. Just turn off the lights, turn on a flashlight and look up!
Students have been working hard to give back to the community for the holiday season. These origami stars, with positive messages for the season, are now displayed at the Underhill Country Store! A shout out to Nancy and Peter Davis for allowing us to decorate the store!

Wishing everyone a safe and relaxing Thanksgiving Holiday! Gobble Gobble
Math Menu is 30 minutes a day designed to facilitate differentiation of the math curriculum to meet the needs of all learners. It's a time where teachers can meet with small groups of children to enhance their learning. While the teacher meets with small groups, other children work independently on a "menu" if engaging activities. These activities include games, technology, rich problem solvers, computation practice and math logic work.
The Essential Understanding: All living and non-living things are composed of matter
Students experimented with some solids to see if they would stack. Some did and some didn't. So what properties must a solid have to allow it to stack? We will continue with this questioning tomorrow!
Parent-Teacher conferences are well underway!
Conferences are a great time to see what your child's been up to, to ask questions you may have and to talk about what the next several months have in store.
I look forward to meeting with all of you in the next couple of weeks.
Homework: I am sending a note home today about second grade homework expectations. Reading is to be done every night, Spelling a few times a week and math whenever it comes home. Please check your child's home-school folder for the overview.
Open House is this Thursday October 2, from 6:00 to 7:00. This is a great time for students to show you what they've been working on. Hope to see you there.
Conferences: Believe it or not we are scheduling conferences starting this week. Check backpacks for the sign-up sheets.
We have been working hard brainstorming and refining our classroom expectations. The goal is to create a set of rules that promote a productive learning environment for all.
Our expectations for the year are:
Be Respectful to everyone and everything
Be Mindful
Be Safe and Kind
Help each other
Keep the classroom neat
By following these few rules we are setting the tone for a great year!
Today was Harvest Day at UCS and it was delicious! Our lunch featured fresh veggies picked by us, and potato leek soup with potatoes, leeks, and onions from our garden. To top off the day we had our Zucchini RelayRace at the end of the day. Lots of fun was had by all! A special shout out goes to Carol Sullivan and to all who volunteer to help in our garden. It is a success because of all your hard work.
It was a cold one this morning. Don't forget to send in sweatshirts and coats as the weather begins to cool off. Our recess time is 12:00, it can still be pretty chilly at that hour. Check students folders to see what they've been doing in math. All math menu work will come home on Mondays.
